NECEC Statement on Senate Energy Bill and Critical Need to Advance Clean Energy Policy in Massachusetts

The Northeast Clean Energy Council (NECEC) issued the following statement regarding, An Act to Promote a Clean Energy Future, released today by Senator Marc Pacheco, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change.

“NECEC endorses action by the Legislature this session to ensure that the Commonwealth’s clean energy economy stays on track, especially in light of mounting headwinds at the federal and state level causing project delays and decelerating growth,” said NECEC President Peter Rothstein. “Massachusetts must increase the growth rate of the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to achieve 50% clean energy by 2030, lift the net metering caps, fix the DPU’s approval of the Eversource demand charge penalty on solar customers, and commit to meaningful, long-term energy storage targets to drive market growth.”

“We applaud the Senate for prioritizing these issues as central components of the legislation advanced today, and we look forward to working closely with Chairman Pacheco, House leadership, TUE Committee Chairmen Golden and Barrett, and the Baker-Polito Administration to come to agreement on advancing these key issues this session,” said Rothstein. “We believe the Senate, the House, and the Baker-Polito Administration all share the clean energy industry's perspective on the importance of these policies and their critical role in ensuring cost-effective clean energy growth. We welcome all efforts to advance these priorities as soon as possible and get the clean energy industry growing again in the Commonwealth.”
