Toyota Joins NECEC’s Strategic Partner Network

BOSTON - NECEC today announced that the multinational automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor North America (Toyota) has joined the organization's Strategic Partner Network (SPN). NECEC’s SPN is a membership network for global corporations focused on building strategic relationships across the Northeast cleantech ecosystem.

“Through our Strategic Partner Network, we provide a forum for the Northeast’s leading corporations to develop strategic industry alliances, lead events on policy and innovation developments, and work together to incubate clean energy solutions for the entire region," said NECEC President Peter Rothstein. “We look forward to working with Toyota through SPN to exchange ideas, drive innovation, and reach our shared energy and climate goals.”

“Meeting the transportation needs of all consumers in the Northeast and providing them with clean transportation choices are important pillars of Toyota’s overall strategy for reducing carbon emissions,” said Robert Wimmer, director, energy and environmental research, Toyota Motor North America. “As a member of the NECEC’s Strategic Partner Network, we hope to not only help accelerate our own efforts, but also assist others in the network to achieve our common decarbonization goals.”

Since the global launch of the Prius nearly 25 years ago, Toyota has sold more than 17 million electrified vehicles and avoided an estimated 139 million tons of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. Between now and 2025, every Toyota and Lexus model will have an electrified option, including hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and fuel cell electric (FCEV).

NECEC created SPN in 2014 to help leading corporations form partnerships within its community of cleantech startups and clean energy member companies to advance their energy and cleantech business strategies. NECEC hosts quarterly workshops and networking and educational events for SPN members, as well as market development sessions to grow strategic opportunities in the Northeast. NECEC also facilitates strategic market working groups to foster collaborative business opportunities and involve SPN members in our early-stage innovation programs Cleantech Open Northeast and Cleantech Navigate as sponsors, advisors, and potential partners or investors with the promising startups that participate in these programs. NECEC’s SPN Members include Analog Devices, Avangrid, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Direct Energy, Engie, Eversource, National Grid, Schneider Electric, and Shell.
