Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice & Values

NECEC leads the just, equitable and rapid transition to a clean energy future and diverse climate economy.

Our commitment to DEI

NECEC commits itself to doing the necessary work -- both internally and within the climate economy ecosystem – to put issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion front and center. We have much work to do to fully integrate our values and ideals and make our organization, board, and membership reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live and work. A just transition to a clean energy future is only possible if the organizations working towards it are just and inclusive. NECEC is on a journey to be a model for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we invite all members of the equitable climate economy ecosystem to join us.

Our commitment to Justice

NECEC’s mission is to lead the just, equitable and rapid transition to a clean energy future and a diverse climate economy across New England and New York. A just transition is only possible if the organizations working towards it are just and inclusive. Thus, NECEC is committed to continuously challenging both the historical and the existing framework of oppression and injustices. We believe that our collective future depends on each member of our society having easy access to the equitable climate economy, its benefits, and opportunities to share their ideas and abilities to make that future possible.

Our Values

  • Drive solutions that create lasting change: We create the enabling environment and advocate for the solutions that will allow us to decarbonize our economy and achieve the just transition to an equitable climate economy. We also support the innovators that are creating these solutions to take them to scale.

  • Lead with justice, equity, and inclusion: Ensuring the just transition to the equitable climate economy and its benefits reaches all people and rights historical injustices is a central focus of all of our work.

  • Learn and improve continually to respond to the world around us: Our insatiable curiosity and desire to create lasting change drives us to consistently examine our work and its impacts so we can ensure it is delivering results for achieving the equitable climate economy.

  • Foster collaborative partnerships: We know achieving the just transition is dependent on the connections and collaborations across the equitable climate economy ecosystem. This is why we are a membership organization- it allows us to actively engage and make connections across our entire ecosystem.

  • Ground our work in integrity and honesty: We speak the truth and lead with our values.

  • Aspire to inspire: Achieving the just transition will not be easy- we seek to demonstrate how its possible and to inspire others to join us in this work.
