Southwest Windpower Turbines Power Remote Alaska Village Water Treatment Plant

 

Southwest Windpower has partnered with other organizations in Alaska to install three wind turbines in the remote coastal village of Goodnews Bay, located 500 miles west of Anchorage. Before the turbines began operating, the village relied entirely on diesel generators for its electricity. The wind turbines are expected to supply 75% of the energy for the village's water plant, and any excess energy will be distributed throughout Goodnews Bay through a micro-grid.

Will Cambrian Innovation Revolutionize Waste Water Treatment?

 

Cambrian Innovation's lead product, ExoGen, uses anaerobic digestion to make wastewater treatment for industry and agriculture more energy efficient. ExoGen is in the piloting stage for the next six to eighteen months. Cambrian founder Matt Silver expects that this product will be able to cut the cost of treating wastewater by 30 to 60%, and hopes that the company will be an industry leader by 2013.

New England Clean Energy Selected as Solarize Mass Installer for Acton

 

New NECEC member New England Clean Energy has been selected as the Solarize Mass installer for the town of Acton. Solarize Mass is a program of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) that encourages the adoption of small scale solar PV, providing communities with clean and economical sources of energy. New England Clean Energy will work with community volunteers to install solar panels on local homes and businesses.
