NECEC Joins Business Associations to Support U.S. Intellectual Property Rights in the COP21 Climate Negotiation

NECEC joined a group of trade associations in asking that federal officials to reject the ongoing demands of a small group of foreign governments and NGOs that UNFCCC member governments weaken the protection of climate change-related patents and other Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), or that they agree to measures or provisions that would otherwise undermine existing global IPR standards.

NECEC President Testifies on Clean Energy Legislation at MA TUE Hearing

NECEC President Peter Rothstein testified at the September 29th Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy at the Massachusetts Statehouse. In written testimony, NECEC identifies two most immediate issues the Legislature needs to address this fall are:

  • Lift the net metering caps now to ensure that solar development continues to flourish in Massachusetts and solar customers can take advantage of federal tax credits scheduled to expire at the end of 2016
  • Pass legislation this fall that directs the distribution utilities to solicit additional long-term contracts for RPS Class I eligible resources, potentially in conjunction with hydroelectric resources, such that the combination will facilitate the development of cost-effective transmission to deliver the power to customers.
